Welcome to The Barn at Mead Farm, Hope, Hope Valley, Derbyshire
The Barn has been lovingly rebuilt in the original stone to reflect its history whilst incorporating all the comforts of modern living.
Light and airy with a contemporary feel, it is the ideal place to relax after a long days walk. The bedrooms feature vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and trusses and each has its own private ensuite bathroom. The Barn is totally non-smoking and pet free. Whilst no longer a working farm we regularly have pedigree sheep in the adjoining fields. There is a grassed area to the rear of the barn which is kept animal free all year round and is for the sole use of guests.
The Barn has superfast WiFi throughout.
We take great pride in The Barn having been awarded a 5-Star Gold rating by the official tourist board 'VisitEngland' who also scored the property 100% for cleanliness - so you can be confident of what you will find when you arrive for your holiday.
The Acorn Cottage (Sleeps 2) & The Oaks Cottage (Sleeps 5)
The original barn has been divided into two holiday cottages, the The Acorn which sleeps two guests and The Oaks which sleeps five guests.
Both cottages are centrally heated with underfloor heating and are fully equipped with everything you will need for a home away from home. We provide all towels and bedlinen.
There are patio areas to the front and rear of the barn enjoying superb views across the Hope Valley. We have also created a sheltered patio with picnic tables and barbeques for the summer months. Guests are welcome to explore the private farmland throughout the year.
There is off road parking and secure storage for bikes and outdoor equipment if you are planning a more sporting holiday.
Location and Amenties:
Mead Farm is situated in the heart of The Peak National Park with easy access to walks in every direction. With views to both Win Hill and Lose Hill, it is in an area of outstanding beauty, but within easy reach of local amenities. We do not take pets with the exception of fully trained assistance dogs.
The village of Hope is about 10 minutes walk away where you can find local shops and pubs including a mini-market which is open until 10.00pm, very useful for emergency rations!
Castleton is the busiest village in the area with plenty of places of interest to visit - The Blue John Mine, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern, Peveril Castle to name just a few. There are several interesting shops selling jewellery and gifts and a variety of places to eat and drink. Especially good is 1530, an Italian restaurant serving pasta and pizzas during the day and a more sophisticated menu for a special evening out. There is also an excellent Tourist Information and Visitor Centre in the centre of Castleton.
The Barn is a short walk from The Cheshire Cheese Inn just along Edale Road. The Cheese has all the warmth of a traditional English pub with a friendly welcome good food and drink and a great atmosphere. Another to add to the list of recommendations is The Samuel Fox in Bradwell. The food is exceptional, the service is friendly and we would definitely suggest it if you are looking for something a little more special.
The railway station in Hope is a mile away from the village giving easy access to Manchester and Sheffield. There is a bus route which runs through to Sheffield from Castleton. Taxis are available but need to be booked in advance. In the case of an emergency there is a local doctors practice with an attached pharmacy.
The cottages are available from 4:00pm on your day of arrival.
